Authentic Cree adventures
James Bay Adventures is the only Indigenous Tourism Ontario certified authentic Cree Tourism & Adventure company working today in our traditional territories.
Since time immemorial, we have lived deeply traditional and culturally rich lives throughout the Moose River/James Bay region of Ontario. We have a deep connection to the land and water as they have provided for us for more generations than can be remembered. We have respected the circle of life throughout our harvesting and foraging, feeding our families and making our communities stronger. Come trek with us on a true Cree adventure!
All of our adventures include intimate Cree cultural experiences of unforgettable feasts and storytelling: Bond with the community over delicious indigenous cuisine and captivating stories passed down through generations. When the waters were running free, our highways were the rivers. Between Freeze-up and Break-up, the frozen land and waters slowed down travel: everything was harder. Today’s eco-tourism adventurers mean that paddling and snowshoeing as well (as cross-country skiing and snow cycling) are again the way many choose to travel up here. We will get you out on the land and waters with your chosen method of transport guided by the indigenous wisdom of your guides.
We also offer Cree Cultural expeditions that delve deeper into the rich traditions of the Cree people:
Fur Trade Canoe Expeditions: Retrace the river routes of historical Cree fur traders, bringing your own package of furs to trade at the former Hudson’s Bay Trading post and gain a deeper understanding of this pivotal era.
Walk the Trap Line: Snowshoe with your guide and trapper his trap lines and experience the ancient Cree way of life of harvesting furs.
We also offer a Cree way of finding your adventure based on the Cree Lunar Calendar.
Finally, we have moved with the times and adopted motorized transport to help us go further, faster and more safely. Thus we offer boat and fishing tours to James Bay, because the waters are too rough for paddling, and we use snow-mobiles for winter adventures, hunting and ice-fishing. Kyle, the main guide is also a Canadian Forces Ranger, expert in keeping you safe based on his indigenous knowledge and military practice.
