Rack the Clicks Polar Bear Park Seven Day Expedition!

A full seven days of sledding, including self-sustaining trekking! You will be racking the clicks with over 540 km each way. Join our exclusive small-group expeditions tailored for those who crave adventure, exceptional wildlife encounters and authentic cultural experiences. Tough it in the unforgiving Northern Wilderness on a self-sustaining trip once you leave Attawapiskat behind.

 

This is the deep freeze of all deep freezes if you are coming from a southern location. Temperatures of -50°C with bitter strong northern winds make trekking something only the most hearty or adventurous take on. However, the dry cold and crisp night air is ideal for viewing Northern Lights and with 6 nights up here, your chances of being awed by these mesmerizing light shows are strong!

 

Day 1.

Cochrane to Moosonee to James Bay

Overnight at Keepaychum or the Hudson’s Bay Staffhouse with indigenous feast including campfire roasted duck or goose and other Cree delicacies, a visit from a Cree storyteller, and watching for the northern lights.

 

Day 2.

Sunrise on James Bay, normally between 7 and 8 am in March

Sled to Attawapiskat with wild-life spotting and photography along the way. Take a break with ice-fishing and enjoy a traditional shore lunch around a campfire where you will sample fresh fish, bannock, scone dogs and more. Continue on to Attawapiskat. Spend the night in a B&B enjoying Cree cuisine, and the northern lights.

Day 3.

This day has the same pattern of activities as Day 2 but ends at a Cree hunting camp where you will enjoy ice-fishing, a campfire, northern lights and who knows what else!

Day 4.

Sunrise on James Bay and on to Polar Bear Park, polar bear spotting and more… (https://www.ontarioparks.ca/park/polarbear) Then back to the hunting camp.

 

Day 5.

Sleep in and head back to Attawapiskat. Take it at your pace as this is a day with room for exploration.

 

Day 6.

Head back to Keepaychum, visit historic Hudson’s Bay Staffhouse and receive a Cree cultural memento, enjoy Cree cuisine around a campfire, story-telling and Northern Lights, if the weather is favourable. Spend the night in a B&B.

 

Day 7.

Sleep in or enjoy the sunrise on James Bay, explore James Bay and Moose River for wildlife spotting and then head back to Cochrane.

Our meticulously crafted tours provide everything you need for an unforgettable experience:

  • Expertly guided sledding excursions: Your guides are both local Cree and Canadian Forces Rangers, so you know you are in good hands! All tours will have three guides between Moosonee and Polar Bear Park. Two will guide you which means that in the case of an emergency, one can deal with it while the other keeps the rest safely on track. The third guide travels ahead to cut wood and prepare the campfire and ice-fishing holes.

  • Temperatures on this tour can be in the -50° range and at times with high winds. No brass monkey stuff. You must have -50° rated gear. Please note that you cannot do this tour without this specialized gear. We will provide you with links to where you can purchase what you need and you must sign a waiver affirming you have the appropriate gear.

  • Comfortable accommodations in Keepaychum and Attawapiskat. Roughing it in hunting camps on the self-sustaining leg of the journey. Includes ice-fishing for meals and wood-stove warmed sleeping quarters.

  • Immersive indigenous cultural experiences

  • All meals, snacks and beverages featuring Cree cuisine

Party of 6 - 3 JBA sleds $4,300 per person. Own sleds and gas: $3,500 pp.

Party of 8 - 4 JBA sleds $3,750 per person. Own sleds and gas: $2,950 pp.
