Your two-day adventure takes you to James Bay and back. Sled from Cochrane off-trail to James Bay. Stop in Moosonee for a shore lunch around a campfire including fresh fish, fried potatoes, Bannock and for the young or young at heart – Sconedogs! That evening enjoy an indigenous feast including campfire roasted duck or goose and other Cree delicacies, a visit from a Cree storyteller, and watching for the northern lights. Next day explore more of James Bay and the Moose River before heading back to Cochrane. Optional: Visit the Hudson’s Bay Staffhouse in Moose Factory, the 2nd oldest English speaking community in Ontario.

Day 1. Cochrane to Moosonee to James Bay

Overnight at Keepaychum or Hudson’s Bay Staffhouse or in a two-star hotel with indigenous feast and campfire and perhaps the mesmerizing northern lights!

 

Day 2.

Sunrise on James Bay, normally between 7 and 8 am in March

Explore James Bay and/or the Moose River for wild-life spotting and photography and then back to Cochrane.

• Temperatures on southern James Bay can be in the -40° range. No brass monkey stuff. Dress appropriately or you can rent gear from us.
