James Bay Adventures

Your adventure begins in Cochrane where you board the Polar Bear Express to Moosonee. Enjoy the sights and the dining car! Riding this train itself is a worthy bucket list item! Arrive mid-afternoon and step back in time with a tour of Moose Factory's historic buildings in this, the second oldest English settlement in Ontario. Meet local Cree artisans and take home a handcrafted souvenir, a cherished reminder of your journey.

As twilight slowly paints the sky, you are ushered to your accommodations - the historic Hudson's Bay Staff House (if available) or our cozy Keepaychum cabins for two. Then, gather around a crackling campfire and savour a memorable feast featuring bannock on a stick, hearty Cree meat stew and, with a bit of luck, fire-roasted goose or duck. Little ones can devour "sconedogs" (wieners wrapped in bannock dough). And as for the adults, don't be shy - no one is counting if you go for seconds!

Listen to captivating stories shared by your guide or even a visiting Cree elder. By the end of the evening, you will feel like part of our extended family. If you choose to stay up, enjoy the canopy of stars and perhaps even the mesmerizing Northern Lights. But the true magic is yet to come - fishing on the legendary James Bay!

After a restful night, fuel up with a hearty breakfast onboard our iconic Cîmân (cheeman) freighter canoes as we embark on our journey. Perhaps while trolling (your choice) the untamed beauty of James Bay, keep your eyes peeled for wildlife encounters with polar or black bears, moose, caribou, seals, beluga whales and soaring eagles.

Whether trolling or at hot spots, land a magnificent sea-run brook trout, a trophy walleye or a monster pike. Then there are the delicious jumbo perch and burbot! When hunger strikes, enjoy a mouth-watering shore lunch featuring fresh caught fish, piping hot bannock and other Cree specialties.

Fish until the wind and tides turn, then return relaxed and exhilarated for your 5 pm train departure.
